"What a cute baby!"

Obviously I believe that Ben is the cutest thing on this planet, and it is oddly flattering when I get compliments on his cuteness. I know, I had nothing to do with it. Some people will tell anyone their baby is cute (even though I do not do that, I actually say "you must be so happy" when someone shows me their ugly baby), but I have come to believe that it is impossible for any other baby to receive as many compliments as my child - insert winking smilie here. For the longest time I wasn't sure what to respond, but now I just say "I know!"...

People have followed him through grocery stores, the lady in the pastry section of our grocery store squeals with delight when she sees him, even the men in the meat section comment on his cuteness. One lady followed us into a store she wasn't even going to go in to see him up close. And then she ran outside again to get her friend. The funniest thing was when someone paged their store manager and then screamed "Look at the cute baby".

What's the point of this post? There is no point.

  1. I will know what you mean when you see a photo of my child and say only, "You must be so happy!" You're going to have to change up your routine. ;)

And yes, that is one cute boy you have!

  2. Love the you must be so happy, may steal it.

Okay, I can relate...P gets stopped about 3 times each trip to the grocery...So I assume it is because we stand out, and maybe we make people uncomfortable or something that they feel they must say something. I catch people staring ALL the time, but then again I used to look at cute Asian babies all the time. So sometimes I say "yes, he knows it!" but now I just say thank you, he's all mine!

  4. I get what you mean, we hear that a lot too! (And Kelly P's comment cracked.me.up!) I say "I know!" too - or "Thanks!" but lately it's "Yes, that's his defense mechanism..." I use that one when he's doing something naughty like throwing things out of the grocery cart. :-)

  5. He is extremely cute! I remember the women stalking him at the mall. ;) We ran into them everywhere and they really wanted him to remember them each time.

So, when I get my referral and you say "You must be so happy" I'll know what you're really thinking! :)

  6. Ha! I love your response to people with ugly babies.
Of course your little man is positively adorable, but my theory is that Americans really have a thing for Asian babies. We've had people stare at our girls to the point that I'm really uncomfortable. They'll comment, in an almost covetous way, how *beautiful* our girls are. And it gets really awkward. But I have to agree... they are cute :)

  12. First off, your child is super cute! Don't you love everyone doting over him? Well, most of the time. We have had issues of people asking if Colin is a girl since he has come home. Thankfully those have died down the past few months. But come on, he is dressed like a boy, in dark blue colors and they still ask. The best question was "is he a girl?". Huh?!

  13. I'm glad you're getting used to it because I think you're going to have this "problem" for a long time with people following Mr. Adorable around to bask in his utter cuteness!!!
