First Words

Thanks to my friend Jane for the t-shirt! We love it!

Ben, at 15.5 months, is still not really saying much. He's babbling a lot. You know; "bababababa" and "agoo agoo agoo". He'll say "mamamamamama" when in or near the kitchen. Once he said "Obama".

But recently he's started saying things with purpose! His first real words are: Da (for dog) and Bow Wow Wow. The boy is obsessed with dogs and where ever he sees a dog, he wildly points with his finger and screams "da, da, da" and then "bow wow wow".

Then yesterday he started trying out new sounds, "b" and "p" and "tch" to be exact. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard him running through the house yelling what sounds a lot like "beach" only really more like it is spelled with an "i" instead of "ea". I swear he is making this up and not repeating it. Unless he really is trying to say beach. And I am hoping that he outgrows this phase very quickly before we are out in public and he yells the b-word at me!

  1. Yay for Ben! That's funny about Obama :) I bet all of a sudden he is going to shock you when he starts talking. He probably has been taking it all in and when he decides he wants to talk he will!

  3. Hehe, yeah, I remember when Briar was first talking and words came out a little "off"...heck, they still do sometimes and she's almost 3!!! Sounds like he is doing really well in the 'talking' department!!

  4. Yay for words! I remember Spencer having a word explosion around the same age... isn't it fun?! And, don't worry, while you will get lots of snickers... you'll also get a lot of understanding looks from others when your child screams out a word that's not quite right...

  8. How cute are their little attempts at words. Max is just exploring sounds like that, too. And then he'll have a new word for like a few days and then it's gone. Weird! Anyway, go Ben! I absolutely LOVE that first photo of him. What a beautiful boy!

  9. Oh Sandra, the things kids say! :) My cousin had trouble with t and would say f and his r's weren't quite there either - so truck was not the best thing for him to see when they were out.

    Thinking of you!

  11. Sandra, first - the pics are great! Yeah Germany!! The "Obama" comment is priceless. Jack is non-stop with mamamamama too - maybe someday we will hear them say "mama" and it will actually refer to us! We have to get together in DC sometime - I would be the boys would be "talking" non-stop and know exactly what the other was saying!
